SNAPSHOT is our first theme out of the gate for 2017. Think stories about based on evocative moments/memories, images that get stuck in the mind and play over and over (wish I’d done this/not done that), images you wish you could forget or remember, things that cannot be unseen, things misremembered, recurring dreams, identity, memory collages…. Storytellers include* returning crowd favorites: Host of the Moth Podcast DAN KENNEDY (NY), Four-Time Back Fence PDX: Russian Roulette Winner SHANNON BALCOM GRAVES (PDX), plus soon-to-be favorites: Hilarious Brand Strategist, Comedic Writer, Imaginary Cat named Stanley JORDAN HAYLES (PDX), and from Banfield Pet Hospital HEATHER AUGELLO (PDX), and one more announced soon!

Every Back Fence PDX: MAINSTAGE show this year will feature a local non-profit and part of the evenings proceeds will be donated to them. For this show proceeds will go to Youth, Rights & Justice. YR&J is a Portland-based non-profit with a mission to improve the lives of vulnerable children and families through legal representation and advocacy in the courts, legislature, schools and community.

Think biology — cells are the basis of life, electricity, organisms, cellphones, prison/jail cells, monastery/nunnery, terrorist/political cells, DNA, dividing, mutating, transforming, plants. (Do you or someone you know have a compelling story on this theme: send yourself or them to our pitch page!)

For this show portion of ticket proceeds will go to Neighborhood House. Around for over 100 years, leading Portland non-profit social service provider, Neighborhood House delivers innovative and life-changing programs for low-income people of all ages. Their programs prepare children for success in school and life, help families move beyond poverty, and support seniors to continue living independently.

A cat will cross the path of all of our September stories. Think stories about the lore surrounding our feline friends, black cats, ladders, good luck or bad luck, do they know things?, moving with a cat, did one help you get through good times and/or bad, lost and found cats, inherited cats, cat haters, cat allergies… (Do you or someone you know have a compelling story on this theme: send yourself or them to our pitch page!)

Back Fence PDX: MAINSTAGE | Knife

Stories that get under your skin like a KNIFE. YES! As in: cuts like a knife, the air was so thick you could slice it with a knife, going under the knife, stabbed in the back, culinary mayhem, thanksgiving turkey drama, anyway you slice it this is gonna round out the year quite nicely. (Do you or someone you know have a compelling story on this theme: send yourself or them to our pitch page!)

FEATURING* returning crowd favorite JOEY SLAMON (LA) along with true stories from four other fantastic storytellers announced soon!

A portion of ticket proceeds will go to Oregon Food Bank. The Oregon Food Bank distributes food through a Statewide Network of 21 Regional Food Banks and approximately 970 partner agencies in Oregon & Clark County. Their mission: To eliminate hunger and its root causes… because no one should be hungry.
